Pachycerianthus solitarius (Rapp, 1829)

Specie piuttosto comune lungo la costa del Salento. Può essere osservato su fondi molli sabbia, fango a modeste profondità. Si distingue facilmente da Cerianthus membranaceus perché manca del tubo da cui fuoriescono i tentacoli. Gli esemplari nelle foto: i primi due da Gallipoli, loc. Pizzo; il terzo da Taranto, Mar Piccolo.

Rather common species along the coast of Salento. It can be observed on soft sand bottoms, mud at modest depths. It is easily distinguished from Cerianthus membranaceus because it lacks the tube from which the tentacles emerge. The specimens in the photos: the first two from Gallipoli, loc.
